OpenAI Rolls Out Shared Projects to All ChatGPT Users

OpenAI has broadened access to Shared Projects in ChatGPT, turning what was once a team-centric capability into a collaboration tool available to everyone. The update lets individuals and groups organize work in dedicated spaces, bring resources together, and move from idea to output without bouncing between scattered threads or files.

The rollout is global and covers ChatGPT’s Free, Plus, Pro, and budget-friendly Go plans, with support on the web, iOS, and Android. That means solo creators, startups, and larger teams can all adopt the same workflow pattern, regardless of subscription tier or device.

Shared Projects function as focused workspaces where you can gather prompts, files, notes, and custom GPT workflows in one place. Instead of sharing one-off chats, collaborators can join a project and see the living context—what’s being tested, what’s approved, and what’s next—so teams spend less time catching up and more time executing.

Access controls are built in. Project owners can invite collaborators, assign permissions, and decide who can view, edit, or manage settings. This helps keep sensitive assets confined to the right audience while still unlocking the benefits of collective iteration, review, and reuse.

Use cases are broad: marketers can centralize campaign briefs and drafts; product teams can prototype flows with shared prompts and sample data; support leaders can standardize responses and tooling; and researchers can pool sources, notes, and analyses—all within a shared, searchable context.

Getting started is simple: create a project, name it for your initiative, add collaborators, and begin dropping in the resources your team needs. As the work evolves, keep everything current in the same space—no more parallel versions or lost links—so handoffs and approvals happen faster.

The feature also aligns with OpenAI’s guidance around safety and data handling. Project-level controls, transparent permissioning, and clear ownership help teams govern how information is used, while release notes and help guides provide ongoing clarity as OpenAI refines the experience.

By opening Shared Projects to all users, OpenAI narrows the gap between casual usage and structured collaboration. It’s a practical step that makes ChatGPT more useful for real work—especially for small teams and cross-functional groups that need a lightweight, AI-friendly hub to plan, create, and ship together.
